A Personal Story

To be honest, my husband wasn’t on board in the beginning. Being the biggest meat lover I knew, convincing him to limit meat to three times a week was a long process—but that’s okay. Our motto has always been “one step at a time.”

Now, you should hear him talk about it. He absolutely enjoys all the new tastes we’ve tried, but more than that, he loves how much his overall well-being has improved. Not only does he feel healthier, but he was also able to stop his weekly Multiple Sclerosis injections that once made him feel terrible.

He has been free from flare-ups for years, and since 2014, he hasn’t needed any medication to manage MS—no problems at all. Honestly, he has never felt this good in his entire life. If that isn’t motivation, I don’t know what is!

UPDATE 2017: Since September 2017, we have been following a mostly plant-based, nearly vegan diet, and we both feel amazing. But remember, this is a personal choice—you should only take that step when you feel ready.

It’s important to understand that a healthy lifestyle should never feel like a burden or add stress to your family. There’s no need to chase extremes or trends like going fully vegan if that doesn’t suit you. Life is already complicated enough. Many families succeed with a flexitarian approach, and if you later decide to go vegetarian or even vegan, that’s completely fine too. Just avoid pressuring your family into it, or they might push back.

Life should be enjoyable, right? After living flexitarian for a while, you may choose to transition to vegetarianism or veganism—it’s entirely your decision. Meat or fish can still be part of a balanced diet; what matters most is cutting out processed and chemical-heavy foods.
